Super Bowl 2020

Latency comparisons across common streaming services for the 2020 Super Bowl

Methodology

Phenix collected 603 data points across ten (10) streaming sources on multiple devices. Each data point was measured by comparing the delay of the streaming source behind either the Over The Air (OTA) or Cable signals. Phenix had an individual inside the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida to measure the latency of OTA and Cable signals against the action on the field, and then against the various streaming platforms. Combining these measurements provided the average delay/lag/latency of the streaming sources behind real-time.

Notes

OTA and Cable latencies behind real-time increased by ~12 seconds from 2019 to 2020.
